JASANZ Looks to the Future of Digital Conformity Data

JASANZ along with NATA and GS1 Australia have collaborated on the development of a concept framework for the exchange of product assurance information in the digital supply chains of the future, releasing Conformity.ID, an online tool for finding and exploring certificates issued by conformity assessment bodies with operations in Australia.

In February 2022, Australia’s National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), GS1 Australia, and the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ) announced the collaboration on a blueprint for how product assurance might be handled in the digital supply chains of the future.

This initial stage of the project has resulted in  Conformity.ID, a web-accessible proof of concept which launched in 2022, and is now available to demonstrate the feasibility of the original ideas.  Conformity.ID provides an online tool for finding and exploring certificates issued by conformity assessment bodies with operations in Australia.

JASANZ is appreciative of the support and input from a range of Australian and global industry leaders on digital systems that played a pivotal role in bringing to fruition this world-first concept for digitally identifying, capturing, and sharing product compliance and credentials as they move throughout the supply chain. An explanatory video has been created to walk users through the platform use.

Department of Industry, Science and Resources funding enabled this investigation into mechanisms for preventing supply chain failures arising from false or misleading attributions of product conformity.  The use of digital authentication and tracking carries the potential to simplify the way product testing and certification is managed, enhance product assurance and support Australian exporter’s international competitiveness.

The next phase of this project is to examine ‘real-world’ applications through an industry pilot across various industry sector, initially with certification of steel manufacturing and certified horticulture products, so stay tuned for further updates.
