Our History
JASANZ is an independent, third-party accreditation body established on 30 October 1991.
The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ) was a historical treaty. JASANZ became the first trans-Tasman institution of its kind.
While its beginnings were in quality management systems, the accreditation system has grown to support a wide range of activities across many sectors. It supports government programs and industry sectors achieve their goals through the use of effective certification and inspection services.
Today JASANZ services include management systems, product certification, personnel certification, validation and verification, and inspection.
The accreditation system:
- accredits 139 conformity assessment bodies (CABs)
- has a portfolio of 139 schemes
- has over 140,000 accredited certificates being used in 100+ countries.
1991: First CEO appointed
Mr John Hulbert was appointed as the very first CEO.
1991: First council meeting
The first council meeting consisted of 21 members, these days JASANZ has a governing board of 11 members.
1991: Treaty signed
A historical treaty is signed and JAS-ANZ becomes the first trans-Tasman institute of its kind.
1992-94: First two schemes introduced
In 1992, JAS-ANZ introduced its first two schemes, Quality Management Systems and Personnel certification.
1992-94: First CABs accredited
On 11 March 1993, JAS-ANZ accredited its first three Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs).
