- Author: JASANZ
The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ) has appointed Dr Graeme Benny as Chair of its Technical Advisory Council (TAC), strengthening accreditation across the Tasman.
Dr Benny brings extensive experience, including serving on the Accreditation Council of New Zealand and as Chair of the Accreditation Committee of IANZ.
The TAC provides independent advice to JASANZ. It helps ensure accreditation activities remain impartial, robust, relevant and aligned with international best practice.
JASANZ Board Chair Jeanette Roberts said Dr Benny’s appointment would further build confidence in the systems that underpin trade, safety, and community wellbeing.
“I’m very pleased to welcome Dr Benny as our new TAC Chair,” Ms Roberts said.
“His leadership will help strengthen the impact of accreditation — building trust, supporting trade, and protecting the communities who rely on accredited goods and services every day.
“His experience will also ensure our accreditation programs continue to deliver tangible value for industry and government alike.”
JASANZ Acting CEO Sarah Valentine welcomed the appointment, noting Dr Benny’s accreditation experience and proven record of leadership would be invaluable as JASANZ continues to evolve.
“Dr Benny brings a rare combination of strategic insight and deep technical expertise, which will be instrumental as we broaden the role of accreditation in supporting trade, innovation, sustainability, and confidence across our region,” Ms Valentine said.
“As a committed and capable leader, he is perfectly placed to guide the TAC and JASANZ into its next phase with integrity and impact.”
Dr Benny has held senior executive roles with the New Zealand Defence Force and the New Zealand Ministry of Health. He holds a Doctorate in Clinical Biochemistry and Microbiology.
He succeeds Tony Evans, who completed his term earlier this year.
Ms Roberts also acknowledged Mr Evans’ significant contribution to the TAC and to JASANZ.
“On behalf of the Board, I sincerely thank Tony for his dedication and leadership over many years,” Ms Roberts said.
“His commitment to impartiality and technical excellence has been instrumental in strengthening the quality and credibility of accreditation across Australia and New Zealand.”
