A trans-Tasman partnership
JASANZ began with an ambitious idea: that two countries could work together to build a single accreditation system with international credibility.
In 1991, the Australian and New Zealand Governments signed a treaty establishing JASANZ as a unique trans-Tasman accreditation body. It was a practical response to growing demands from business, regulators and trading partners for a more consistent and trusted approach to accreditation.
More than 30 years later, JASANZ remains a unique trans-Tasman accreditation body, bringing together expertise from across the region to support confidence in conformity assessment and connect local assurance systems with the world.

Our membership in Global ACI
JASANZ is a proud member of Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global ACI), the international organisation that brings together accreditation bodies from around the world to promote consistent and trusted accreditation practices.
To become a signatory to Global ACI's Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA), JASANZ has undergone independent peer evaluation against internationally recognised standards, demonstrating the integrity and effectiveness of our accreditation system.
Through this global recognition, JASANZ accreditation is accepted across borders, helping reduce technical barriers to trade and supporting access to international markets. For organisations accredited by JASANZ, this means their certificates, reports, and inspection findings can carry greater recognition worldwide, supporting efficiency and confidence in their results.

Shaping assurance across the Pacific
Strong quality infrastructure supports safe trade, economic opportunity and sustainable development. Across the Pacific, countries are strengthening the systems, skills and institutions that support confidence in products, services and organisations.
JASANZ works with Pacific governments, standards bodies and regional organisations, including the Pacific Islands Forum and the Pacific Islands Standards Committee, to strengthen conformity assessment and accreditation capability across the region.
This includes sharing technical expertise, supporting regional approaches and helping build locally led assurance arrangements that reflect the needs and priorities of Pacific economies. For example, JASANZ has contributed to work on regional approaches to kava quality and safety, supporting Pacific producers to demonstrate the quality and credibility of kava in international markets.
Through initiatives such as the Pacific Quality Infrastructure Program, JASANZ contributes to stronger foundations for trade, investment and long-term resilience across the region.
